A new preprint detailing Ichnos+, a system for estimating the environmental footprint of scientific workflows using fitted power models, is up on arXiv.

Our full conference paper on Augur predicts workflow energy consumption before execution and was accepted for IEEE CLOUD 2026.

Our journal article “A Systematic Evaluation of the Potential of Carbon-Aware Execution for Scientific Workflows” has been published in Elsevier's FGCS journal.

Kathleen and Lauritz will be speaking at the FONDA workshop on Reducing the Carbon Emissions of Large-Scale Computational Data Analysis, which will take place on 25 and 26 November at Humboldt University of Berlin.

We prepared a new article that systematically assesses the potential of carbon-aware temporal shifting, pausing and resuming, and resource scaling. For this, we studied various real Nextflow workflows, compute clusters, and energy grid data.

We are happy to share that our short paper on “Exploring the Potential of Carbon-Aware Execution for Scientific Workflows” was accepted for publication in the proceedings of the “25th IEEE International Symposium on Cluster, Cloud and Internet Computing”, and was presented in person, in Tromsø in May 2025.

We are happy to share that our full workshop paper on “Ichnos: A Carbon Footprint Estimator for Scientific Workflows” has been accepted for publication in the post-proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Low Carbon Computing (LOCO 2024), which was held as a hybrid event in Glasgow on December 3rd last year.

We are excited to announce the official start of the EPSRC-funded Casper project, aiming to advance carbon-aware computing to tackle the challenge of aligning flexible cloud computing workloads with low-carbon energy availability.
